How to Get a Library Card
Adults
The first library card is free to those who rent or own property in the library district. Check your address here.
Bring proof of current address and photo identification when you apply for a card. You are responsible for all items checked out on your card. If you lose your card, you may obtain a new one for $2.00. With the Reciprocal Borrowing Program, your Fox Lake Public Library District library card is good at most Illinois libraries.
A person who holds a valid, in-good-standing library card from the Fox Lake District Library may borrow materials on-site from most other libraries in Illinois.
Contact the library you plan to visit to learn how you can use your card at their library.
Children and Young Adults (ages 17 and under)
Children who are able to write their first and last names can get a library card. However, they must have a parent or guardian with them to register. The parent or guardian is responsible for all materials checked out on the card.
Young Adults (ages 16+)
Young Adults sixteen years or older with a government-issued photograph ID may obtain a library card. They are responsible for all materials checked out on their card.
Other Account Types
If you reside outside our service area, and are not served by another public library, you may qualify to purchase a non-resident card. The cost of this card is set by Illinois State law {75 ILCS 16/30-55(60)}. Please contact us for the current non-resident rate. Visit the library to fill out the Non-Resident Taxpayer application.
The Illinois Cards for Kids Act allows qualifying students in pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade who participate in the Federal Free and Reduced-Price Meal Program at school to obtain a library card free of charge, even if they live in an unserved area. Visit the library to fill out the Cards for Kids application.
Delivery of library materials is available to library cardholders who cannot get to the library, whether on a temporary or permanent basis, due to extensive illness or injury. Extended check-out periods apply. Home Delivery Service participants can request specific titles or get recommendations from library staff.
To apply for the Home Delivery Service please use the Request Form. Contact the library at 847-587-0198 if you have any questions.
